Response to Attorney General Anil Nandalal’sl Misleading Assertions.
The Guyana Public Service Union (GPSU) rejects the disturbing and misleading assertions of the Attorney General Hon. Anil Nandalall that the GPSU’s challenge to the consultation and subsequent nomination by the Senior Staff Association’s nominee amounts to an attempt to sabotage the work of the government. The only sabotage of the constitution is the war declare by the Attorney General on the constitutional right of Public Servants, through the GPSU to freely espouse claims to ensure the legitimacy of the actions taken by the Parliament are within the spirit and intention of the constitution as envisage by Article 7 and 8 of the said Constitution.
From the inception of Resolution No 24 of the Eighth Parliament of Guyana, Second Session (2002 – 2003) the GPSU has been strongly expressing its objections to what they consider as unconstitutional or unlawful, resulting in formal objection in a letter dated March 14, 2007,(see copy attached). The Union’s objection has not been done in isolation since the then Member of the Parliament James Mc Allister in Kaieteur News article dated April 11, 2006 also objected this mischief of parliament by the creation and thereafter inclusion the Association (See copy attached).
It is important to note at this point that the committee also raised the similar concerns during the consultation process.
