A dedicated Son of the Soil and Trade Unionist has fallen in a horrific vehicular accident that should have never occurred

A dedicated Son of the Soil and Trade Unionist has fallen in a horrific vehicular accident that should have never occurred.

Bro. Trevor Lloyd Daly, Unit Chief of Air Navigation Services, Timehri Tower, Guyana Civil Aviation Authority and Second Vice President on the Executive Council of the Guyana Public Service Union passed away on Sunday July 13, 2025 at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.

Bro. Daly was involved in a horrific vehicular accident on July 10, 2025 on the Hero’s Highway, East Bank Demerara and was rushed to the Diamond Regional Hospital. He had collided with a plank across the road with no reflectors or any luminous caution to alert drivers. Due to the emergency treatment required Bro. Daly was transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation. Later that day an MRI was recommended to determine the extent of his injuries which was done at the St. Joseph’s Mercy Hospital. His funeral took place on Monday July 21, 2025. He was fifty one years old.

It is ironic that one who spent his entire career ensuring the safety of air traffic commute would meet his demise on the roadways of Guyana.

Brother Daly joined the Civil Aviation Authority in 1990 after completing his secondary education at Alleyne’s High School. It was the beginning of a life-long career of 34 years as an Air Traffic Controller ensuring that the air space was safe for incoming and outgoing flights in Guyana’s airspace.

He impacted the lives of many individuals and because of his love for people, especially representing that conditions of service for workers be improved he became a Branch Chairman of the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority. Bro. Trevor served in several capacities at the Guyana Public Service Union including Organising Secretary and Projects Officer. Finally, he served as the Union’s Second Vice President until his passing. He was also the Communications Officer with responsibility for the Union’s Social Media platforms and website.

Bro. Trevor, during his tenure with the Union was always willing to accept challenges, and was passionate about his duties with other fellow Trade Unionist. He was very vocal and argued his last point, encouraged others and was always willing and ready to lend a helping hand.

Trevor has given 34 years of professional service to Guyana. One moment this young man was here, being part of day to day administration of the Union, training sessions, serving and imparting knowledge to others; the next funeral arrangements are being made.

Trevor, as he was fondly called, has left a gap both in the professional services and the operations of the Union. His death has caused widespread grief and disbelieve throughout the Union’s membership as he was well respected and loved by all.

The GPSU, its President, Executive Council, Staff and General Members of the Guyana Public Service Union are still trying to come to grips with his passing. His sense of humour, insight, his tranquil appearance even in the most tumultuous situations will be felt by all. The Executive Council will continue to work assiduously as he did with love and compassion.

He has indeed left too soon. He will always be etched in the history of the Guyana Public Service Union.

Farewell great son of the soil.
