Caribbean Youth Day 2022

The Guyana Public Service Union (GPSU) takes the opportunity to wish Guyana’s youth and those of the rest of the Caribbean a peaceful and objective “Caribbean Youth Day 2022” and challenges them to wrap their minds around relevant occurrences and imminent happenings affecting the World today, while considering possible solutions that would make the World a better place, tomorrow.

Youths of today are the human resources that would replenish the vanguard of tomorrow. This therefore requires solid preparation through learning enlightenments and involvements, today. Hence, a “blind eye” or “deaf ear” would not suffice or create enabling factors to dissolve or remove obstacles to World peace, equality and equity, etc.  for removing negative factors that now envelope the earth, threatening the very existence of mankind.

The time is also ripe for Youths to engage in intergenerational solidarity as suggested by the theme for International Youth Day “Intergenerational Solidarity: Creating a World for All Ages.” This theme underscores the need for solidarity across generations to enable sustainable development. It therefore means that all generations must collaborate towards solving global issues that would threaten mankind’s wellbeing, livelihood and possible survival. It is because of these issues, such as, fallouts from both the COVID-19 Pandemic and Russian/Ukraine war, unemployment, bad governance, inequality, lingering negative existence of racism and climate change, among others, that the Guyana Public Service Union, joins the youths within its membership to recognise today September 30, 2022 as Caribbean Youth Day as an occasion to reflect on a vision for the future.

The Guyana Public Service Union recognize that our young people are integral to sustainable development and positive change. Youths are also the bridge of the generational gap and necessary actions are required to have emerging leaders. Therefore, Youths form a notable basis of investment of today’s resources for tomorrow’s gain. It is with this in mind that we advise all Youths to stay focused and work tirelessly towards enlightenment, educational goals and recognition of achievements, because these would prove to be important to the identification and resolution of global challenges and as pillars of good decision making in the future. Guyana Public Service Union will always be committed to supporting the advancement of Youths within its membership and look forward to working together with them for a brighter future.

The Guyana Public Service Union therefore wishes all Youths, in Guyana and the Caribbean an enjoyable Caribbean Youth Day 2022, together with ongoing preparation to surmount tomorrow’s challenges.

 September 30, 2022.
